Principals

Student Leadership Board

The SLB has been re-organised in end 2008 and it consists of 8 departments: Aesthetics, Health and Fitness, MediaTech, Partners, Publicity, Resource Management, Student Management and Student Wellness. The departments within the SLB are headed by an Executive Committee (EXCO), which consists of the President, Vice Presidents (Leadership or Service Wing), Secretary cum treasurer and Department heads.

Students are nominated by their teachers, and undergo a rigorous selection camp sometime in April or May of every year. Successful candidates are then invited to join the board in one of the 8 departments.

In addition to possessing leadership qualities, student leaders should possess good character and academic results.

Uniform

Mayflower Secondary School's uniform is beige in colour, and for the girls, three unique knife pleats run down the front and back of their skirts.

Ethos and discipline

In May 1999 the school's Discipline Master told The Straits Times that his biggest problem was catching students smoking. Girls found smoking were made to spend three hours cleaning classrooms. Boy smokers were caned — one stroke on the first occasion, and more strokes subsequently.[1]

The school's website states that, for all serious offences including smoking, gambling, fighting, vandalism or cheating, male students may receiving a caning. There is also a system of demerit points for more minor misbehaviour.[2]
